St Audrys Golf Club Try Golf Day

August 9, 2017

St Audrys Golf Club held their second annual ‘Try Golf’ day on 1st August in association with the Doctorgolf Academy at Ufford Park.
This was a great opportunity for all the family to try golf for the first time or come back to golf after a break. 42 registered to take part, including 15 children, and the three sessions were well attended. Everyone received tuition in chipping, putting and driving before putting it all into practice on four par 3 holes. Lots of volunteers from St Audrys helped out on the day, the weather was fine and it was amazing to see how quickly many of those attending improved their technique in just a few hours.

Beaumont Trophy

August 4, 2017

What a brilliant result!!

The Seniors’ Beaumont team travelled to opponents Gorleston on Tuesday 25th July to play their Beaumont Cup quarter final. They were met by Gorleston’s captain who could not have been more welcoming. A feature that was mentioned by many of our squad was just how hospitable their hosts were throughout the day. As often is the case on this course there were strong winds which made playing conditions particularly tricky.

After all 4 pairs had completed 9 holes of their 4-ball better ball matches St Audry’s found themselves up by the slim margin of 2 holes. They magnificently held onto this lead & on completion of the match they came out victorious, still by 2 holes. This was a tremendous team effort & the team are now into the semi final, the furthest they have ever achieved in this competition.

The semi final, traditionally held on a neutral course, will be played against Brett Vale at Fynn Valley Golf Club on Tuesday 22nd August. Support on the day would be very much appreciated.

The pairs & their scores were as follows:

Frank Wilson & Malcolm English -3
Eddie Barnes & John Chapman +2
Rob Haste & Mike Hammond +4
Aly Andrews (Capt) & David Leech -1

St Audry’s Men held their annual Club Championship  (Thacker Cup) competition on Sunday 30th July. 36 holes were played off scratch (no handicaps) & the winner was Roy Smith with an aggregate score of 146 which was 5 shots clear of the field. Included in that score was a magnificent hole-in-one, achieved with a 6 iron on the 162 yard 6th hole. Many congratulation to Roy for both his ace & his resounding victory.

Charlotte’s Bowl

August 3, 2017

This competition was founded in memory of Charlotte Claxton by her husband Bill.
He specified that this competition should be open to six other clubs, including Felixstowe, Fynn Valley, Rushmere, Waldringfield and Woodbridge with a team of four players from each of the seven clubs.

It gives me great pleasure to announce the winning team of 2017, (imagine a drum roll please!!)

Seniors’ Charity Invitation Day

July 12, 2017

St Audrys annual Seniors’ Charity Invitation Day was held on Monday 3rd July. 24 members, each with a guest, played an 18 hole Stableford competition. The weather was lovely & the course was a credit to our incredible green-keeper, Michael Eade. Please see the comprehensive competition results & also photographs of various prize winners. A great day was had by all competitors & their generosity helped raise in excess of £1,500 for captain, Aly Andrews’ nominated charities, Prostate Cancer UK & the Ipswich Life Saving Club. Many people helped make the day such a success, none more than Aly’s wife, the lovely Teresa.
Overall individual winner, Terry Sheldrake being presented with the winner’s shield by Teresa & Aly Andrews.
