LADY CAPTAIN’S DAY 2017

October 6, 2017

I was chuffed to bits with the turn out for my Lady Captains Day on Wednesday. We had 25 ladies out on the field and 29 for lunch. The weather was fine although a little chilly, but never mind, the ladies soon warmed up with Sallie’s sweet potato and chilli soup!! Thank you Sallie and Murray, you did a wonderful job. Thank you also to my mum for her fruit cake and Mari for her strawberry sponge extravaganza!

As some of you already know, I have no talent in the kitchen, so my contribution to our fabulous lunch was to set out the tables and make everything look pretty. I laid out the knives and forks perfectly, forks on the left and knives on the right. OOPS! We’re having soup!!

Thank you to all that helped out on the day, especially Liz Jackson who is recovering from a long time of pain and treatment on her back. (You’re looking and doing fab Liz!) We are so happy to have her back amongst our ever growing group of wonderful ladies.

Back to the golf and the results. CONGRATULATIONS TO:

The winner of the day and receiving the trophy, JUDY GOWEN

In second place – Tracey Catling (winner last year)

In third place – Georgie Webb

Thank you all for participating and making the day so very special for me.  Jules x

Here are some photos of you all on the course. Enjoy!.

LADIES’ & SENIORS’ MIXED TEXAS SCRAMBLE WEDNESDAY 27th SEPTEMBER

October 3, 2017

Ladies’ captain Jules Donoghue with help from Seniors’ captain Aly Andrews & others organised the event. Jules worked tremendously hard, not least in arranging overall handicaps for all teams to be within 1 shot of each other. Each team had a lady & 2 seniors & the total of 12 teams was a great turnout & showed what a popular format Texas Scramble is with members.

Everyone said how much they enjoyed both the tournament & the lunch of steak pie after their 18 holes. All final scores were in a narrow band & the prizes were given as follows:

Winners………. Judy Gowen, Frank Wilson & Terry Sheldrake Net Medal Score 59.3
Runners Up….. Tracey Catling, Ken Hodson & Phil Donoghue Net Medal Score 59.8
Third…………… Ruth Goodship, Barry Skoulding & Malcolm English Net Medal Score 60.2

Once again, many thanks go to Jules & her helpers for organising & running such a successful & enjoyable event

SENIORS’ AWAY-DAY MONDAY 2nd OCTOBER

October 2, 2017

Seniors’ club captain Aly Andrews organised the above event which took place at Harwich & Dovercourt Golf Club. It was a very windy day as is usual on the North Sea coast but the greens were in great condition. There were 26 participants in trying conditions & Stableford scores reflected this. There were prizes in various categories including John Westrup who won most points on the par 3 holes, Richard Hudson who won most points on the “hidden” holes, Bob MacKenzie who was nearest the pin on hole 7/16 & Malcolm English who was nearest on hole 5/14. No player in the top 3 places overall can win more than 1 prize so Malcolm English’s front nine score of 16 points (Roy Ince had 18) & Frank Wilson’s 18 on the back nine won them prizes. Pete Dell, Tony Rhodes & Roy Ince all had 30 Stableford points & finished in that order on countback. The accompanying photograph shows Pete Dell receiving the winner’s tankard from Seniors’ captain, Aly Andrews. It was a very enjoyable day & thanks go to our hosts Harwich & Dovercourt Golf Club for their hospitality (the fish & chips were magnificent) & to Aly (& Teresa, of course) for their hard work.

Juniors September 2017

October 2, 2017

To all St Audry’s Competitors,

Although we had an initial downpour, I think we can count ourselves very lucky with the weather on Sunday. It could also highlight that perhaps our preparation for the competitions could need rethinking How many of you had umbrellas?

Regardless of the weather we had another successful competition that once again produced some impressive golf shots and scores. I’ve attached a results sheet which has some handicap adjustments, plus a collage of action shots from the day.

The next competition will be held on Sunday 22nd October (13.30 tee off). If you would like to play please let us know.

Weaver-Saunders Greensomes Pairs

September 25, 2017

On Monday 25th September the Seniors competed for the prestigious Weaver-Saunders Trophy which has a greensomes pairs medal format. The event was conducted in weather that gives Autumn a good name with warm sunshine & light winds, in the main. There were some impressive scores with 3 pairs scoring net 57s but the victors on countback & seen in the photograph holding their trophy were Ken Hodson (left) & Seniors’ vice-captain, Rob Haste.

Beaumont Trophy

August 23, 2017

Tuesday 22nd August saw the eagerly anticipated semi final of the Beaumont Trophy against Brett Vale at Fynn Valley Golf Club. Seniors’ captain Aly Andrews kept with the same squad that had brilliantly won their quarter final match at Gorleston in July. The atmosphere at the first tee was fairly tense & all players became visibly more relaxed once they’d sent their tee shots away. It was nip & tuck over the first part of the contest but as the afternoon wore on the opponents’ experience of a longer course became apparent. In the end, Brett Vale ran out worthy winners. Once again, the friendly nature of the contest was admirable & we wish Brett Vale well in their final.

Reaching the semi final of this prestigious tournament is a remarkable achievement for St Audry’s. The team of (from left to right) John Chapman, Frank Wilson, Aly Andrews (captain), Mike Hammond, Malcolm English, Rob Haste, David Leech & Eddie Barnes should feel very proud of themselves.

St Audrys Golf Club Try Golf Day

August 9, 2017

St Audrys Golf Club held their second annual ‘Try Golf’ day on 1st August in association with the Doctorgolf Academy at Ufford Park.
This was a great opportunity for all the family to try golf for the first time or come back to golf after a break. 42 registered to take part, including 15 children, and the three sessions were well attended. Everyone received tuition in chipping, putting and driving before putting it all into practice on four par 3 holes. Lots of volunteers from St Audrys helped out on the day, the weather was fine and it was amazing to see how quickly many of those attending improved their technique in just a few hours.

Beaumont Trophy

August 4, 2017

What a brilliant result!!

The Seniors’ Beaumont team travelled to opponents Gorleston on Tuesday 25th July to play their Beaumont Cup quarter final. They were met by Gorleston’s captain who could not have been more welcoming. A feature that was mentioned by many of our squad was just how hospitable their hosts were throughout the day. As often is the case on this course there were strong winds which made playing conditions particularly tricky.

After all 4 pairs had completed 9 holes of their 4-ball better ball matches St Audry’s found themselves up by the slim margin of 2 holes. They magnificently held onto this lead & on completion of the match they came out victorious, still by 2 holes. This was a tremendous team effort & the team are now into the semi final, the furthest they have ever achieved in this competition.

The semi final, traditionally held on a neutral course, will be played against Brett Vale at Fynn Valley Golf Club on Tuesday 22nd August. Support on the day would be very much appreciated.

The pairs & their scores were as follows:

Frank Wilson & Malcolm English -3
Eddie Barnes & John Chapman +2
Rob Haste & Mike Hammond +4
Aly Andrews (Capt) & David Leech -1
