The Club is very busy with summer competitions, one of which is the Veterans Cup – a medal format for players over 55 years. This was won by Malcolm English with a great score of 58, John Chapman came second with the same score but pipped to the post on count-back.
The highlight of the competition however was a hole in one scored by Tony Rhodes – his first ever – on the 120 yard 18th hole using an 8 iron. Understandably chuffed to bits, the ball has been framed!
Anyone who has played at St Audrys will know that the 18th hole is very challenging with a steeply sloping green protected by two large bunkers – a hole in one is a rare occurrence. For this competition, the hole was cut in a difficult position and a downhill put could easily run off the green – not a problem for Tony on this occasion!
